Remembering Beloved Advocate, Patricia Loughran
Patricia Loughran has been an advocate for East Suburban Citizen Advocacy since 1997. She delighted in our work and brought her generous heart and support to our mission of advocacy and inclusion. When we launched our “Art from the Heart” program in 2011, she enthusiastically went to work teaching art classes and sharing her passion for the creative process. Patricia’s innate celebration of all people and her fun disposition made her class sizes grow. After one year, we had so many participants that we needed a bigger classroom space!
Patricia introduced us to Miss Gabi Nastruck, who shared both her appreciation for the arts and zest for life. When Patricia’s health began to decline, Miss Gabi picked up her mantle and continues the important work of bringing people together of all abilities and building positive relationships through the arts.
When Patricia moved into Redstone Highlands last year, she was instrumental in expanding our art program there. She helped us to forge two new programs. A partnership with ESCA, the Blind Association, and Redstone residents was formed last January under the leadership of LaVerne Von Scio, expanding the arts to include weekly custom jewelry making and beadwork. Again, we had more participants than expected and had to move to a larger space!
Patricia can be seen in the picture above participating in our “Flowers to Friends” where donated flowers are re-purposed with volunteers from ESCA and Clelian Heights. The flowers are then distributed to Redstone’s or other assisted living sites’ residents.
We mourn the loss of Patricia, but with your help we will honor her memory by continuing the important work she started. Donations in Patricia’s memory can be made at JustGiving at this link
